Inaugural Langford Bikefest a success with Island Cup Enduro and Red Bull event

The "Weather-Pendulum" swung wide at the Jordie Lunn Bike Park, but didn't hold back cycling enthusiasts and fans to attend the first annual Langford Bikefest on July 2 and 3.

Saturday's "Live Like Jordie" Enduro presented by Trek Store Victoria was met with warm and sunny weather as over 200 participants took to the new trails at the Langford Gravity Zone and Nature trails located near the Bike Park. Race categories include Expert, Jr. Expert, Sport, U19, and Youth. The event featured the new trails Peanut Butter Knife Fight, Berm Reynolds, Gold Rush, On the Rocks, and Snakehole.

Sunday's Red Bull Pump Track World Championships Qualifier was dampened by wet weather and colder conditions. However, a small group of riders took to the track and made for some exciting racing for those attending.

The women's overall winner was Molly Simpson from Red Deer AB, who is a 7 time national BMX Champion and currently the #1 ranked BMX racer in Canada. Teigen Pascual finished in 2nd, with Taylor Smith in 3rd.

Niels Bensink from the Netherlands took top honours in the men's race and continues his winning streak after winning Crankworx Innsbruck only 2 weeks earlier. In a close battle, it was Ryan Gilchrist who took 2nd place, while Josh Gibb took 3rd.

As prizes, both men's and women's winners received complimentary tickets to attend the UCI Red Bull Pump Track World Championships in Santiago, Chile later this year.

The entire Langford Bikefest was MC'd by freeride legend, Brett Tippie, who effortlessly engaged with the public and created an atmosphere of excitement and crazy humour.
